A woman sent home twice from the hospital died at home from a PE
They cited the risk of MRSA as being the reason she was “safer at home”. That’s a pretty weak argument – the risk of transmission should be controlled with proper and strict contact precautions.
Here’s more about the case:
The inquest heard Mrs Qureshi was first admitted to the hospital in January and kept in for eight days after collapsing at a family funeral. She was diagnosed with an ear condition associated with dizziness.
On 16 February she was readmitted to the hospital and diagnosed with quinine poisoning before being discharged three days later.
On 22 February she was admitted to the hospital for a third time when it was discovered she had massive blood clots. She died two days later.
Apparently, she didn’t give the history of breathlessness and the fact she was taking oral contraceptives. With a PE, one must have a very high index of suspicion – especially when someone comes in after collapsing.
