Spyware and HIPAA. “HIPAA has regulations addressing privacy of medical records including online transmission and storage, but according to a recent article on Yahoo, there are problems including lack of enforcement and loopholes. I’ve read about several incidents where medical information was exposed online due to human errors and software glitches.
Back to the doctor’s office, though. After that incident, I thought about the recent reports of keyloggers and spambots being downloaded in spyware exploits. What about the doctor’s home computer? When he/she gets that 2 AM call and logs in his/her computer to look up medical records, let’s hope there is no keylogger recording and writing his/her login name and password to a file on a distant server somewhere.”
I recommend Ad-Aware and Spybot: Search and Destroy to rid your computer of spyware.
