medpagetodayFrom MedPage Today:

  1. CT No Better than Stress Test as Chest Pain Diagnostic. Anatomic CT as the initial screen for suspected stable coronary artery disease didn’t improve clinical outcomes compared with functional testing but did increase overall radiation exposure.
  2. The Primary Care Cliff. Just about everyone in Washington knows that the Medicare SGR formula is about to cut payments to physicians by 21% on April 1, unless Congress overrules it. How many know, though, that primary care physicians are also facing a scheduled Medicare cut of 10% on Jan. 1, 2016, unless Congress overrules it, which would be in addition to the SGR cut? Not too many, I suspect.
  3. The Case for Body Cameras: Good for Doctors — and Their Patients. Scrubs — check. Stethoscope — check. Body camera — check.
  4. Value of U.S. Cancer Care Questioned. U.S. spending on cancer care has been increasing more steeply and expensively compared to spending in Western Europe in recent decades, but without a corresponding decrease in cancer deaths.
