Thank you all for making 2019 another great year on the KevinMD platform. With over 25 million page views, and 500,000 followers across Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, KevinMD continues to be your leading health care voice.

KevinMD was named to Medscape’s 20 Top Physician Social Media Influencers, PR Week and MM&M’s Health Influencer 50 2019, and FierceHealthcare’s Social media influencers in healthcare you should know in 2020.

As health care promises to be a top issue as we head into an election year, it’s more important than ever for our voices to be heard. Physicians, patients, nurses, and advanced practice practitioners are all on the same side: In order to truly make a difference, we need to speak with a unified voice. I’m proud to play a small role in amplifying those voices across the spectrum of health care.

Here are the most popular posts of 2019.

To parents who have lost children: We never forget your children, 196K shares. Parents who have lost children: I want you to know something. We don’t forget your children. We mourn with you. We question every decision. We relive every moment. We think of you on holidays and special occasions. We fight against the easier path, which is to feel numb, so we don’t have to feel the gut-wrenching pain of losing patients.

A Xanax prescription that should have been rejected, 78K shares. Once educated, prescribers have a responsibility to fully inform their patients of the risks of benzodiazepines–it’s simply not enough to expect a patient to read the drug sheet handed to them at the pharmacy.

68 laws of the ER, 77K shares. Murphy’s Law as it applies to the ER: If something can go bad, it will do so in a hurry. If it can’t possibly go bad, it will still find a way.

I’m sorry: Why I lost my love for medicine, 72K shares. I’m sorry, but this is what burnout looks like. I’m sorry it isn’t all my fault. I’m sorry I’m going to go get help. I’m sorry if you feel like firing me because of that. I’m sorry if you are going to take my license away. I’m sorry, but I can’t sit by anymore.

Taking food and drink away from doctors and nurses is just cruel, 65K shares. Depriving staff of food and drink proximate to where they work is of no health value and strikes me as just one more way of exerting control over the people actually engaged in the hard, grinding work of saving lives. And worse, it’s just mean.

A scribe’s haunting view of emergency medicine, 56K shares. If you’re in the emergency department, it’s probably the worst day of your life. You’re scared, confused, anxious, sad, maybe emotionally numb.

Nursing’s newest problem: The young eating the old, 49K shares. We came here for a reason. Let’s not destroy ourselves.

49 ways to stay out of my ER, 47K shares. I’m an ER doc. I care for patients. All patients: Those who need to be in the ER; those who don’t; those who wouldn’t be there if they knew better. For them, for you and for fun, I’ve got some tips to keep you happy, safe, and away from my ER.
