The moon was full, the stars shone bright
I thought I’d settle down for the night
Upon my soft pillow my head got caught
Until a phone call stirred me from my foolish thought
On Friday night of weekend call
One patient had refused it all
When Pit was offered, she said, “No way!”
Internals too were brushed away.
We waited calmly, full of grace
For natural labor to take its place
And sure enough, on Sunday’s eve
After a day of push and heave
She strained and groaned, consumed by dread
Until emerged a CONE-shaped head!
The patient stared, aghast, in fear
Then was told gently, “Your daughter is fine, this soon will disappear!”
And all was well and I exhaled
Until the rest of the night became unveiled
Triages, ED calls, NSTs galore
Then two more patients busted through the door.
One was complete, the other closed and thick
And then another patient called to talk about her trich
Night’s hail was gone, and morning brought its storm
Then rainbow light appeared, a fleeting, quirky form:
A post-op patient farted and went home
A new day followed then came the night
The moon and stars yet again shone bright
I settled down, to my soft pillow my head did cling
I wasn’t sure what this night would bring
And once my eyes were fully shut
Another patient came and needed to get cut
With nimble steps and mind free of strife
I went to scrub and grabbed my knife
The lights were bright, the sutures laid
Another case done, a new melody played
The weekend came and then it went
A time well lived, a time well spent.
