“Many individuals reported they are using antidepressant medication to cope with coming to work,” she said. “Individuals expressed a loss of interest in their marriages, children, and lives outside of work. Several individuals had a fighting attitude, however, there were very few. The vast majority are fearful and demoralized… This degree of stress is not sustainable for staff even in the short term: critical medical decision making will suffer and staff will ultimately leave the hospital to escape what many described as ‘intolerable working conditions.'”
