It’s important to manage your patient’s expectations when sending them to the hospital.
Do not say you’ll call head so they can be seen sooner. Let them know there may be a wait, despite already having been seen in your office.
Make sure the patient understands the difference between a direct admit versus an evaluation in the ED. It matters in terms of patient co-pays.
These little things make life easier our emergency physician colleagues, so that they don’t have to deal with this.
