Take back some of the richness that life can offer

Matthew Gibson, MD

December 16, 2012

As I was driving to work this morning, I was thinking about how I wish I had time to exercise more. It’s my 7th week as an intern, and I have only gone on a run once in that time (a 2.5 mile run last week in 25:30 — pitiful considering that two months ago I was running 8-10 miles at least once a week). How medical school changed me

“Hold on, I have to call this in”, he said. I listened to snippets of the conversation. “How long has he been like that?” “How far away is the helicopter?” “Alright, let me run to my office and set up my equipment.”

He hung up …

Medical students are part of each patient’s health care team

Matthew Gibson, MD

May 5, 2011

I realized last week one of the hardest mindset transitions that I’m having to make as a medical student. It has to do with not really feeling like I belong, and the need to really make my patients … well, MY patients!

As a medical student, you can actually function reasonably well without ever having to actually see a patient.

You can read …
