  1. Pediatrics: Smartphone in Bedroom Is Not So Smart Choice. The impact of excessive television exposure on children has been well documented, but “small screen” devices (such as smartphones or tablets) may be even more harmful to a child’s sleep patterns.
  2. As Docs Face Big Cuts In Medicaid Pay, Patients May Pay the Price. Andy Pasternak, a family doctor in Reno, Nev., has seen more than 100 new Medicaid patients this year after the state expanded the insurance program under the Affordable Care Act.
  3. MOC makes no difference in primary care patient outcomes. Maintenance of certification (MOC) requirements did not improve primary care quality nor did it reduce hospitalizations deemed preventable by outpatient care, according to a pair of studies in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
  4. Ebola Tx Poses Ethical Puzzles. The treatment of Ebola patients in developed countries poses significant ethical challenges for clinicians — especially when they have to think about urgent life-sustaining care.
