An excerpt from The Bonds We Share: Images of Humanity, 40 Years Around the Globe.

A young girl decorated for the Jaisalmer camel festival.

The Jaisalmer Desert Festival is an annual event that takes place in February in the beautiful city of Jaisalmer, India. The festival is celebrated amidst the beautiful dunes of the Thar Desert in the Sam dunes (42 kilometers from Jaisalmer). Romantic, remote, and unspoiled, the location comes to life during the three-day extravaganza of the delights of the desert.

The Jaisalmer Desert Festival is an expressive way to celebrate or indulge in the glorious expressive heritage of Rajasthan. Guests in the festival will have appropriate moments to rejoice in the celebration with their loved ones. All the guests in Jaisalmer Desert Festival will be witnessing the traditional roots of Rajasthan in different forms, from local folk fare to other festive celebrations.

Daughter and father during the Earth Day celebration.

Her face is decorated in colors of the earth. With events on Earth Day and throughout the week, New York City celebrates sustainability and ways to live in harmony with the planet. Scheduled festivities include a march down Broadway with a mix of virtual talks and celebrations and in-person walks and volunteer opportunities across the boroughs.

Earth Day began in 1970 as a way to raise awareness about environmental issues and became a global event in 1990; the event has been celebrated in parks across the city since 2000.
