The patient presented with a rectal bleed. Any rectal bleeding over the age of 50 needs a colonoscopy. If the patient was younger, more conservative options can be considered, including an anoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy. However, any rectal bleeding is abnormal and the cause should be confirmed.
